Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler to debut on HSN
Multi-channel retailer HSN has announced the on-air debut of Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler on October 12, 2010. New York-based interior designer Jonathan Adler will launch his new collection of home decor and accessories during HSN's Home Design Event, an annual showcase of the newest fall collections from the network's roster of home designers.
"As with all my designs, Happy Chic is a versatile collection meant to be mixed and matched," said Jonathan Adler. "In partnering with HSN, we have created a unique series of stylishly affordable pieces that I believe will resonate with both new customers and those already familiar with my design aesthetic."
Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler will feature three concepts. 'Pop' brings together bright, graphic patterns, lacquer finishes and iconic animals and tabletop objects. 'Natural,' is expressed through organic shapes and handcrafted ceramics, while 'Deluxe' evokes Hollywood Glamour through luxurious and polished nickel and platinum finishes. The collection will include a range of products for the bath, kitchen, tabletop, seating and lighting.
Jonathan will return to HSN again on October 27 and again in November to debut new additions to his Happy Chic line on HSN and hsn.com.
Hansgrohe launches iBox Universal Plus
Hansgrohe has introduced iBox Universal Plus Rough-In Valve. Developed specifically for the North American market, the iBox Universal Plus is a single rough that replaces all 13 existing roughs for the Hansgrohe and Axor brands.
Following the worldwide launch of the iBox Universal in 2001, the development of the new iBox Universal Plus is the culmination of 10 years of ongoing research and development by Hansgrohe’s German engineers.
“This product positively impacts all industry professionals: our showrooms, our stocking partners, as well as our most demanding contractors,” says Nicolas Grohe, director of marketing and product development for Hansgrohe North America.
IBox Universal Plus is being introduced in conjunction with a new streamlined collection of trim styles that correspond with each of Hansgrohe’s World of Styles: Contemporary (S), Transitional (E), Traditional (C), as well as for Hansgrohe’s newest product series, PuraVida.
The iBox Universal Plus will be available at kitchen and bath Showrooms across Canada in July.
IGuzzini Lighting opens New York showroom
IGuzzini illuminazione, a manufacturer of high-end architectural lighting based in Recanati, Italy, has opened its first showroom in the United States. The 4,700 square-foot showroom is located at 60 Madison Avenue in New York City in a landmark building overlooking Madison Square Park.
Like all iGuzzini showrooms, the New York location features a Lighting Laboratory for light technology testing and simulations, where various reproductions of typical lighting situations can be produced. The space will also host events and initiatives to raise awareness of lighting issues in the community.
IGuzzini’s first U.S. showroom will give lighting designers, technical operators, and all those with an interest in architectural lighting the chance to discover the company's latest generation fixtures and lighting systems.
Alberta student one of NKBA 2009/2010 Student Design Competition Winners
The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) has announced the eight winners of the 2009/2010 NKBA Student Design Competition, which offers $10,000 in scholarships. Among them is Teresa Simon, from Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alta. Simon, who is currently enrolled in the college’s interior design technology program, placed third in the bathrooms category.
Sponsored by Sub-Zero and Wolf, as well as Waypoint Living Spaces, a division and trademark of American Woodmark Corporation, the 2009/2010 competition challenged students to create a kitchen and/or bathroom design that maintained the historic ambiance of a 1910 home while adding modern conveniences.
“I wanted to create a very warm bathroom with lots of natural elements in the space,” says Simon. Her “Onyx Glow” design features onyx and travertine wall tile, copper fixtures including a copper sink shaped like a tulip, a natural stone vanity countertop and stained glass windows. The open floor plan has a shower with no glass enclosure and in-floor heating. Her submission included a perspective of the space and blueprints.
Simon receives a $1,000 prize from the NKBA and two tickets to the 2010 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Chicago. Winners will be awarded at the NKBA Design Competition Awards Luncheon on Friday, April 16, 2010. The event will also recognize the professional designers who created the best kitchens and baths of the past year.

New kitchen show to be held in Cologne
More than 100 kitchen furniture industry and household appliance brands are scheduled to exhibit at the first LivingKitchen trade fair taking place January 18-23, 2011 in Cologne, Germany.
Held alongside Imm Cologne furniture industry fair, participating exhibitors are made up of kitchen furniture and appliance producers as well as manufacturers of supplementary products such as sinks, fittings, refined work surfaces, accessories, lighting and services for kitchens. Alno, Elica, Gaggenau and Liebherr are among the exhibitors set to participate in the inaugural event.
In addition to products and exhibits, LivingKitchen will feature of host of live events including cooking shows across the trade fair grounds, as well as cocktail presentations and wine and coffee tasting sessions.
According to show organizers, Koelnmesse, the show has already surpassed expectations. Originally taking place in two halls and an atrium, a third hall has since been added. “Our target of hosting the first LivingKitchen with around 80 companies has already been exceeded,” says Gerald Böse, Chairman of the Board of Koelnmesse GmbH. “And we still have more than seven months to go before the trade fair opens its doors. I am absolutely certain that all the major international industry players will be in Cologne in January 2011.”

IWF 2010: New Cabinets to Countertops Symposium
The International Woodworking Machinery & Furniture Supply Fair-U.S.A. (IWF) and the International Surface Fabrication Association (ISFA) are partnering together on a symposium August 24, 2010 titled “Turning Opportunity into Profit”.
The one-day program will provide important information for countertop and cabinetry companies that will enable them to improve their manufacturing process, implement new technology, market to their potential customers and make a profit.

2010 KBIS attendance up nearly 30 percent over last year
The 47th annual Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) drew more than 37,000 attendees, up nearly 30 percent over last year. The event, which took place at Chicago's McCormick Place on April 16-18, 2010, featured nearly 700 exhibitors in more than 300,000 square feet of expo space.
Owned by the National Kitchen and Bath Association, the three-day event brought together the industry’s top dealers, designers, builders, remodellers, retailers, and other professionals directly involved in the design and remodel of residential kitchens and bathrooms. The show also featured a full conference program led by industry leaders including Sergio Zyman, former chief marketing officer of Coca-Cola who led the Opening Ceremony, and David Kohler, president and COO of Kohler Co. who provided the State of the Industry Address.
During the show, the NKBA announced the winners of the 2010 NKBA Design Competition following the review of hundreds of entries. More than $100,000 in cash prizes was awarded to designers from across the U.S. and Canada including James Howard, Tim Scott, Ada Pagona, Ines Hanl, Brian Johnson and John Sylvestre.
The winners of the 2010 Best of KBIS Competition were also announced. Chosen by a panel of judges, which included Jennifer Gilmer, CKD, of Jennifer Gilmer Kitchen & Bath, Ltd., and Susan Serra, CKD, of Susan Serra Associates, the eight winning products demonstrated functionality, quality, flexibility, aesthetics, style and innovation and were introduced to the market in the past 12 months. For the first time, entries were eligible to win in two new categories: Universal Design and Green/Sustainable Products. Winners included King Slide and TOTO USA for “Best of Kitchen” and “Best of Bath,” respectively.
Next year’s KBIS will return next year to the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas on April 26-28, 2011.
Hastings Tile & Bath to distribute Sonia bath products
Hastings Tile & Bath, distributor and importer of luxury bath and tile products for the architectural and home design industry, has entered into an exclusive agreement to distribute the Sonia line of bath products in North America and the Caribbean. Sonia’s line of high-end contemporary bath vanities, storage solutions, and accessories is sold worldwide in more than 90 countries.
“Adding the Sonia line to our collection makes perfect sense for Hastings, because Sonia’s design aesthetic and manufacturing quality meets the high standards we look for in any product line we distribute,” said Jody Rosenberg, director of sales & marketing for Hastings. “Sonia has a strong presence in the U.S. because they have been sold here for 11 years. In fact, because we are keeping Sonia’s existing distribution channels and adding to it, we’ll be able to provide stronger customer service to Sonia customers, which is a key factor for us.”
Hastings will maintain the Sonia distribution and customer support facility in Sunrise, Florida.
